Month Theme: The Anointing
Topic: Unexpected Mediums for the Anointing
Scripture Reading: Exodus 4:10-20; Acts 10:30-40
Main Text:
Exodus 4:17
17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.
sometimes God uses physical things as the means of transmitting His power. The physical objects may be used just once and no more. For instance, Jesus used saliva and soil to anoint and heal a blind man though He did not always resort to that method (John 9:5-7). The reason for the use of symbols and tokens in the ministration of the Spirit, is that human beings relate better to things they see and touch.
Overcautious people cannot be anointed:
1. Speaking
Inspiration – Jesus Christ was bold in declaring that He was the light of the world. The carrier of the anointing must be inspirational.
2. Spitting
Faith – Jesus Christ believed that God can use anything to heal. Spittle was used by Jews and pagans with charms to cure eye diseases. Jesus Christ cured the blind man without charms. The spittle also represents something that is despised – God can use anything. Use anything God puts in your hands.
3. Sending
Authority – the river was a gift sent from God, Jesus Christ was the gift sent from God and the blind man was sent to the pool to be healed. The name Siloam means sent.
The use of spittle to open the blind man’s eyes showed that God chooses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise (1 Corinthians 1:27-29).
Prayer: Pray that God will use what you have in your hands to work a miracle for you.
