THEME SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 26:52-53 (NKJV)
[52] But Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword. [53] Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?
MESSAGE:
We saw in yesterday’s devotion, that, prayer establishes a connection between heaven and earth; and that the dream Jacob had, in which a ladder was set up on the earth, whose top reached to heaven, and on which angels ascended and descended, is a perfect picture of what happens whenever we pray.
Our theme Scripture is a reference to the “arrest” of Jesus in Gethsamane, during which Peter used a sword to cut off the ear of one of the servants of the High Priest. Jesus’ Words indicate that we can pray for angelic assistance. Peter thought he could defend Jesus by using a physical sword, but Jesus knew better! We do not wrestle against flesh and blood, and the weapons of our warfare are not human-made. We have access to angelic assistance whenever we pray. Jesus said, “Or do you think I cannot NOW PRAY TO MY FATHER, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?” (Matthew 26:53, NKJV). In the time of Jesus, a standard Roman legion consisted of about 6,000 men. These legions were the elite soldiers of the Roman army. Meaning, twelve legions of angels will be 72,000 elite or special set of angels; and they’d have been sent by the Father in response to Jesus’ prayer.
Thank God we have access to the same Father, in the Name of Jesus! We are not helpless; we have God’s supernatural help at our disposal if only we will pray. The angels are ready to ascend and descend on the “ladder of prayer.” It’s time to pray!
