Topic: THE HONOUR OF MARRIAGE
THEME SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 13:4 (KJV)
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
MESSAGE:
Marriage is a covenant relationship between a man and woman, which has binding aspects, and goes with some form of responsibilities. We will discuss this definition in detail, in the course of this series.
Our theme Scripture says, “Marriage is honourable in all...” In other words, of all human relationships, marriage has the highest honour. God honours the marital union with His blessing, beauty, and glory. The man who finds a wife obtains favour from the Lord. Proverbs 18:22 (NKJV) says, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favour from the Lord.”
It was the Almighty God Himself who instituted the marital relationship and commanded the first couple to be fruitful and multiply. Therefore, sex between a husband and his wife is not sin. God honours the intimacy between a husband and his wife with His blessing. The marriage bed is not defiled when a husband and his wife engage in sexual intercourse. That’s why our theme Scripture says, “Marriage is honourable in all, AND THE BED UNDEFILED...” However, The next line of our theme Scripture reveals judgement instead of honour. It says, “...but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” A whoremonger is a person who moves from bed to bed, sleeping around with anything in skirt or trousers with no sense of shame. An adulterer is one who adulterates. To adulterate, is to contaminate that which is pure. The marriage bed is undefiled; it is pure and holy, but the moment a third person is brought onto the marriage bed, it is defiled. The person who brings a third person into the marital union adulterates the purity of his or her marriage and brings judgement upon him or herself.
God gives honour to married couples, but will judge whoremongers and adulterers. If God were to meet you on a bed, will you receive His honour or judgement?
