THEME SCRIPTURE:
1 Corinthians 13:1 (NKJV)
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.
MESSAGE:
We have established in the two previous devotions, that, we connect heaven to the earth through prayer, as well as engage the assistance of angels.
Our theme Scripture makes reference to “…the tongues of men and of angels.” We often dwell on the aspect of “Not having love” in this verse of Scripture, and ignore an equally more important revelation about the fact that we can speak the tongues of angels. Can you imagine having the ability to address God’s angels in prayer? And that’s exactly what we do when we pray in unknown tongues! Someone may argue, that, when the 120 disciples received the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, they all spoke the tongues of men, but the tongues believers in our dispensation speak are gibberish. Well, what we fail to understand is that, even though the 120 disciples spoke the tongues of men, the speakers themselves didn’t understand what they were saying. The languages they spoke were known to the hearers but unknown to the speakers. All the 120 disciples were Galileans and could therefore, at best, speak the Jewish language; but those who heard them could hear the different languages of people who had gathered in Jerusalem at the time (Acts 2:4-12).
There’s a difference between the tongues of men and that of angels, and we can speak both when we receive the Holy Spirit and begin to speak in other tongues. The tongues of men are often referred to as, “Ministerial tongues”; they’re given so we can minister to others, as it happened on the day of Pentecost. But the tongues of angels are referred to as, “Praying tongues”; we use it often in our fellowship with God. Whenever you pray in tongues, you’re not addressing men; rather, you’re speaking to God and to His angels, using the tongues of angels. Whether people understand what you’re saying or not, that’s not their business; you’re not speaking to them. So long as the God you’re speaking to understands what you’re saying, that’s okay. If the angels whose language you’re speaking understand what you’re saying, then, you have no explanation to give to anyone else. 1 Corinthians 14:2 (KJV) says, “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.” No man understands what you say when you pray in tongues, but you speak mysteries or hidden secrets, using the language of angels. And so long as God and His angels understand what you’re saying, you have it made! And besides, what you’re asking for, will always be the Will of God, because whenever we pray in tongues, the Holy Spirit makes intercesion for us according to the Will of God (Romans 8:27).
