Topic: COMMUNICATION IN MARRIAGE (Part 1)
THEME SCRIPTURE:
Genesis 3:1-3 (NKJV)
[1 ] Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” [2 ] And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; [3] but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”
MESSAGE:
It is said that “Communication is the lifeline of every successful marriage.” A lifeline is something regarded as indispensable for the maintenance or protection of life.
If a marital relationship is going to be maintained and protected, communication between the married couple is indispensable. From our theme Scripture, it is very noticeable that Satan took advantage of either a lack of communication, or a miscommunication between Adam and Eve, and attacked the marriage with his deceit.
Remember, before God formed Eve, He had already given Adam specific instructions concerning the upkeep of the garden. “And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it” (Genesis 2:15, KJV). The question is, if Adam was instructed to dress and keep the garden, how was he going to do that without touching the trees? The tree of the knowledge of good and evil was among the trees in the garden; certainly there was no way Adam would dress that tree without touching it. God told Adam not to eat of the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil, but when Satan tempted Eve with his subtile question, Eve added her own version: “And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, NOR SHALL YOU TOUCH IT, lest you die’” (Genesis 3:2-3, NKJV). Did you see the weakness in communication between Adam and Eve? Interestingly, Scripture makes us aware that Eve ate the fruit and gave it to her husband who was with her (Genesis 3:6). What? So, Adam was around all that while? First Timothy 2:14 says, “And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.” Wow! Why didn’t Adam correct his wife immediately since he knew the truth? It’s true God had said they shouldn’t eat of that fruit, but did God say they shouldn’t touch it?
Lack of communication, or miscommunication between married couples, is a weakness Satan still explores and takes advantage of, to launch his deception. To be forewarned, is to be forearmed!
