Topic: WHY SATAN ATTACKS EVERY MARRIAGE
THEME SCRIPTURE:
Genesis 3:1-5 (NKJV)
[1] Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”[2] And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; [3] but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”[4 ] Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. [5 ] For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
MESSAGE:
From our theme Scripture, we see the cunningness of Satan through the serpent, and how he used lies to deceive Eve. 1 Timothy 2:13-14 ( NKJV) says, “[13] For Adam was first formed, then Eve. [14] And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.”
The power of Satan is deception; he takes advantage of lack of communication or miscommunication in marriage to attack. You may not see Satan wielding a machete or dagger to attack, but once he’s able to trick you into believing his lies, his mission is accomplished!
We said in our previous devotion, that, until married couples discover that the ultimate purpose of God is for the marital union to be the perfect picture of the union between Christ and His Church, the marriage hasn’t achieved its true purpose yet. The mystery of God for the marriage institution is that, marriage is not an end itself; it is a means to an end – to reveal the love of Christ for His Church!
Bear in mind, that, Satan had lost his place in heaven at the time he attacked the first marriage. Ever since Satan fell from heaven, he has vowed to make God look untrue and unloving in the eyes of humankind. Incidentally, humankind is the object of God’s love, and the marriage relationship is a prototype of the love relationship between Christ and His Church.
If a marriage relationship works perfectly as God planned it, that would mean the love of Christ for His Church will be revealed. And since Satan has vowed to make God look untrue and unloving, he launches his attack on anything that reveals the love of God.
If Satan attacked the first marriage at the time when Adam hadn’t inherited the sin nature, do you think he will not do it again, especially, now that we’re living in a present evil world? Beware! Thank God we’re not ignorant of Satan’s devices (2 Corinthians 2:11).
