Month Theme: The Anointing
Topic: The Ever-present Spirit
Scripture Reading: Psalm 139:1-11; Acts 10:30-40
Main Text:
Psalm 139:7
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
Immature believers feel anointed only under perfect conditions. To be constantly anointed, we must know that the Holy Ghost is ever-present and we are anointed under all circumstances, good or challenging (Psalm 139:7-11).
The Psalmist wrote about three places that represent the conditions we experience without losing the presence of the Holy Ghost or the anointing (Psalm 139:8-9):
1. Heaven
- Heaven represents the conditions that are blissful, favourable, blessed and conducive. It speaks about when everything around you is perfect. You are blessed with God’s refreshing presence with no sign of the devil.
2. Hell
- Hell represents the conditions of torture, pain, agony, death and destruction. It is difficult if not impossible to experience the anointing in “hell” – dark conditions. We see only the devil or demons but the Psalmist says God is there.
3. Horizon
- Psalm 139:9 mentions the uttermost parts of the earth – the horizon. The horizon refers to earthly and human experiences which are neither activities of heaven or hell. They involve things that are good or bad in human existence but we must deal with them.
Believers and unbelievers alike experience them but the Holy Ghost gives us the advantage. The Psalmist experienced the presence of the God, the Holy Ghost or the anointing in green pastures and the valley of the shadow of death (Psalm 23:1-4).
Prayer: Thank God for His ever-assuring presence.
