Month Theme: The Anointing
Topic: The Beauty of the Anointing
Scripture Reading: Zechariah 4:1-14; Acts 10:30-40
Main Text:
Zechariah 4:12
12 And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves?
The subject of the anointing often generates a lot of controversy. Due to: the lack of wisdom and impure hearts of those who carry the anointing. A little illustration will do. Water at 100 °C will burn your mouth rather than quench your thirst but if it is cold it quenches thirst. The kind of spirit or character which clothes the anointing determines its workability or likeability.
The Bible describes the anointing as “golden oil” presumably because of its beauty. The word “golden” in Zechariah 4:12 is taken from the Hebrew word zāhāb which means:
• Shinning
Zāhāb means to shine with glistening light. Visibility. Noticeability. A city set on the hill cannot be hidden.
• Specificity
Zāhāb also means gold-coloured (yellow) like oil. Not only visible but distinguished or separated from others. You are “yellow” but others are “blue”.
• Serenity
Zāhāb refers to a clear sky and golden or fair weather. Calmness, composure and tranquillity.
What immediately comes to mind from the meaning of golden oil is beauty and radiance (Psalm 104:15). The anointing is beautiful in appearance and action. The anointing is beautiful and beautifies those who have it. David described King Saul and his son Jonathan as the beauty of Israel who were slain (2 Samuel 1:17-19).
Prayer: Pray that nothing will cause you to miss the value of the anointing on your life.
