Month Theme: The Anointing
Topic: The Advantage of the Anointing
Scripture Reading: Ecclesiastes 9:1-18; Acts 10:30-40
Main Text:
Ecclesiastes 9:11
11 I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.
The anointing gives you advantage over folks who are naturally faster, stronger and wiser than you. Through the anointing, you receive wisdom and strategy to provide food for yourself. The anointing generates riches and promotes favour in your life. We need the anointing to succeed in life a ministry because time and chance happen to everybody (Ecclesiastes 9:11). Speed, strength, wisdom and skill cannot withstand time and chance but the anointing can.
Two things represented the “time and chance” that happen to people who have a mandate on earth:
1. Delay
- Life is often associated with delays and uncertainties. Your inbuilt reserve of the anointing helps you to survive delays – you have advantage over others. The anointing gives you the patience and self-control to wait for God’s breakthrough. King Saul could not wait for Samuel but forced himself to offer the sacrifice in the flesh. Samuel’s anointing survived the delay (1 Samuel 13:8-13).
2. Dissipation - We use the anointing in us to execute the tasks we have in life – the anointing dissipates. We must keep replenishing the wisdom, knowledge and anointing us. Jesus Christ had advantage over His disciples who could not cast out an evil spirit. Jesus Christ replenished the oil in Him constantly by praying, pleasing the Father and applying the principles of the Word of God constantly empowered Him for all task. The disciples did not frequently sustain their spiritual discipline (Matthew 17:19-21).
The foolish and wise virgins in Jesus Christ’s parable may have all been strong and skilful. But those who succeeded in meeting the bridegroom were the ones with extra oil or the anointing (Matthew 25:7-9). The bridegroom tarried – delay. The oil of the five foolish virgins was spent – dissipation.
Prayer: Pray for the grace and tenacity to survive delays.
