Topic: FAITH IN THE HOLY COMMUNION
THEME SCRIPTURE:
1 Corinthians 11:26 (NKJV)
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
MESSAGE:
Faith has been defined as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen; it is the response of the human spirit to the Word of God.
We must prove our faith in God by our response to His Word, because the Word is God. The proof of our faith in God is seen in our acts of faith, either through what we do, or what we say.
For instance, the appropriate faith response to our theme Scripture is to do what the Word says we should do; no amount of talk or exposition on the Holy Communion can be a substitute for what Scripture instructs us to do. It says, “For as OFTEN as you EAT this bread and DRINK this cup...” Meaning, we are to eat the broken Body of Jesus and drink His Blood; and we’re to do it often! Giving a lecture on the broken Body of Jesus and His shed Blood can never be a substitute for what we are to do. Are you getting the point?
Our theme Scripture went on to say, “For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you PROCLAIM the Lord’s death TILL HE COMES.” The Greek word translated proclaim, is “kantengello”, which means, “To make known” or “Experience.” In other words, if we’re to experience the benefits of the broken Body and shed Blood of Jesus, we are to eat and drink! No amount of teaching on the Holy Communion can bring its benefits unless we do the Word. And we’re to do it till Jesus comes!
Do you have faith in the Holy Communion? Then, be a doer of the Word, and not only a hearer.
