Main Text:
Luke 4:18-19
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
The mandate to preach the acceptable year of the Lord, is a summary of the preaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ stated in Luke 4:18, 19. The purpose of Jesus Christ on earth was to give believers comprehensive freedom from the works of devil namely sin, sickness and death. The word “acceptable” in the above scripture reference is the Greek word ‘dektos’ which means acceptable, approved or propitious (favourable, promising, advantageous, bright).
The acceptable year in the above scripture reference could refer to the year of Jubilee in which there was a compulsory release of all slaves and people’s properties which were in the custody of others. Slaves and those who were indebted to others looked forward to the Jubilee year (Leviticus 25:8-13). Many good things have happened within this year. In the concluding days of the year, we trust God for the release of what is yet to be released. The Israelites left no blessing in Egypt (Exodus 10:26). We are leaving no blessing behind as we move into 2021.
The Amplified version of the Bible refers to the acceptable year of the Lord as God’s year to act. It may look like God has delayed or is silent about our situations but in the acceptable year of the Lord, He acts! Patience is a major requirement to experience the Jubilee. It is no too late to fully enjoy your jubilee.
Prayer: Thank God for the many good things He did for us this year, some of which went unnoticed.
