Month Theme: Release
Topic: Compulsory Release
Scripture Reading: Leviticus 25:8-13
Main Text:
Luke 4:18-19
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
The year of Jubilee, signalled by the sound of the trumpet is comparable with this dispensation in which the Gospel is preached to those who are in bondage to sin and the works of satan. They are released from bondage when they receive the Gospel. The “acceptable year” in Luke 4:19 could refer to the year of Jubilee in which there was a compulsory release of all slaves and people’s properties, which were in the custody of others. Slaves and those indebted to others looked forward to the Jubilee year.
Moses the law-giver commanded the people of Israel to release all slaves and others’ properties in their possession during the Jubilee (Leviticus 25:8-13). The continuous sounding of a horn signalled the unconditional release of the oppressed.
The Message version of the Bible refers to the acceptable year of the Lord as “GOD’S YEAR TO ACT”. It may look like God is silent about our situations but in the acceptable year of the Lord, He acts! Patience is a major requirement for experiencing the Jubilee. Many believers destroy their destiny before it manifests itself. Through impatience, they deny God and do wrong things that jeopardise their future.
Prayer: Declare your freedom from every bondage. You are free indeed.
