Luke 4:18-19
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
The Spirit of the Lord was upon Jesus Christ to empower Him to preach the Gospel to the poor, heal the broken-hearted, preach deliverance to the captives, recover sight to the blind, set at liberty those who were bruised and preach the acceptable year of the Lord. The mandate to preach the acceptable year of the Lord seems to be a summary of the preaching and healing ministry of Jesus Christ stated in Luke 4:18. Jesus Christ’s purpose on earth was to give believers comprehensive freedom from the works of the devil namely: sin, sickness, poverty, depression and death.
In the acceptable year of the Lord, God approves our unconditional release from bondage. In the propitious year of the Lord, we are ushered into favourable conditions. THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BLESSED YEAR, WHICH BELONGS TO JEHOVAH. It is the Messianic period of blessing characterised by theocratic rule.
Many believers have been in bondage while unbelievers possessed the land and denied us access to the blessings of God. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has reconciled us to God and restored all things to us – this is the dispensation of the Jubilee (Romans 1:16). Today, the Jubilee is fulfilled in the Gospel of grace through Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Declare your freedom from every bondage. You are free indeed.
