Month Theme: Let Brotherly Love Continue
Topic: Receive Angels
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 13:1-9
Main Text:
John 13:34
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
The Bible enjoins us not to forget to entertain strangers. This admonition is about travellers or missionaries who were sent on assignment (Hebrews 13:1-2). The apostle Paul cited a biblical precedent of some people receiving angels unawares. This exhortation might have been in reference to the Jewish story of how Abraham received three visitors, at least two of whom turned out to be angels.
Angels constantly come our way and we must have the discernment to recognise them and the obedience to receive them. Those who walk in love toward strangers qualify for angelic visitation. Abraham's love for God and human beings elected him for angelic visitation (Genesis 18:1-3). The angels who came to Abraham did not appear from the sky, with wings and glowing all over. They came as men, walking with dusty feet.
The angel carrying your blessing may not appear to you in a vision or in a glorious manner. He may appear as man. Your "angel" may even be a helpless human being you have known all your life, yet your blessing may come through him or her. Believers should develop the awareness of the presence of angels, whether they're human or from heaven, and appropriate it (Hebrews 12:22). We must receive the angels God sends our way.
Prayer: Pray that God will open your eyes and touch your heart to have awareness of the presence of angels.
