Month Theme: Faith
Topic: Faith for Wisdom
Scripture Reading: Genesis 6:1-15; Hebrews 11:1-40
Main Text:
Hebrews 11:7
7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
Noah feared the Lord. He had deep reverence for the Lord. The fear of the Lord, through faith, moved Noah to build the ark, though there was no evidence of an impending flood, as yet (Hebrews 11:7). The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). Noah evidently received wisdom from the Lord because he feared Him. The wisdom of the world only leads to destruction, but true wisdom is found in the Lord (Proverbs 14:8-12).
God gave Noah wisdom to live right. Noah was a righteous man before God (2 Peter 2:4-9). He walked in the wisdom of the Lord. The people of his day lived based on earthly wisdom. They were wicked and had evil intentions towards one another (Genesis 6:5). They did not have faith in the message God sent them through Noah. They were eating and drinking, marrying and giving into marriage, until the floods came (Matthew 24:36-39).
What they thought would save them failed them. Noah, through faith, received wisdom to build the ark and survive the deluge. It is only through the wisdom of God that Noah would keep building an ark for many years, when there is no sign of a flood. To build an ark with such dimensions, would require wisdom from God. Noah depended on God for wisdom to survive the deluge. In these times of difficulty, earthly wisdom will fail. Only wisdom from God will sustain your life, family, business, ministry, etc.
Prayer: Pray and ask the Holy Ghost to help you walk in divine wisdom.
