Month Theme: Manifestation
Topic: The Pain of the Creature
Scripture Reading: Romans 8:17-22; 2 Kings 2:1-13
Main Text:
Romans 8:19
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
Awareness and admission of the pain of the creature is a tonic for earnest expectation. Those who are in denial of the pain and weaknesses of their creature-ness end up with pride and destruction instead of the earnest expectation of glorification. The apostle Paul shows the pain and weakness of the creature in Romans 8:17-22.
SUFFERINGS – poverty, sickness and pain – is one of the weaknesses of the creature (Romans 8:18). We do not have power of our own against sufferings. SEASONS like winter and summer are not in our control; local and global occurrences like covid-19 overwhelm us. Time speaks about limitation (we have only 24 hrs in a day) (Romans 8:18). SUBJECTION is the third. The creature is subject to various things including vanity (frustration, futility) – laws and religion that cannot save, appetites that are insatiable and unsurmountable challenges (Romans 8:20). SPOILAGE is another weakness of the creature. The action or process of spoiling, decay, corruption, deterioration and decomposition of the creature is not given to the creature to control (Romans 8:21). STRESS is the fifth weakness of the creature. Stress can be negative or positive in meaning. Some of the stress we exhibit is groaning and travail unto birth. We feel restless and are in labour to produce a new thing – the glorious outcome of our faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 8:22).
Scripture says, in Romans 8:26 that “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Our own efforts are not enough. We need the help of the Holy Ghost to assist our CREATURE-NESS to attain God’s Spirit nature of GLORIFICATION.
Prayer: Pray and ask the Holy Ghost to help you overcome your creature-ness.
