THE WORD SIROCCO
Wedesday, June 10, 2020
Month Theme: Manifestation
Topic: The Keys to Waiting – Foundation
Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 2:1-13
Main Text:
2 Kings 2:1
1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
The keys to Elisha’s manifestation as the man with Elijah’s mantle can be found in the names of the various places he went to with Elijah before the latter was taken from him – before Elijah’s translation and Elisha’s empowerment. Gilgal means rolling or circle of stones. Gilgal is the place where the Israelites camped after crossing the Jordan River. It represents the Foundation or beginning.
The foundation here is your first love for God, the brethren and the things of God. Gilgal was the foundation of the first love of Elisha for God, Elijah and Israel. Your first love is the foundation that determines how long you can last and how far you can go. Many people are too quick to forget their foundation; when blessed, they become too busy to go back to the God they were crying to, day and night, for blessing. For some, the zeal with which they started ministry, the joy that accompanied the commencement of their businesses, or the purpose that fed their resolve to pursue academia, is lost along the way. Such people are not able to wait (press) for their glorification, when difficult times set in. Without one’s first love, he or she will fall along the way, when times change (Revelation 2:2-5).
Love kept Elisha with a man the Lord would take away. Many others would have forsaken him because he has nothing more to give them. His love was founded on a circle of stones but not on a pack of cards.
Gilgal was all about relationship with one person – Elisha’s relationship with ELIJAH.
Prayer: Pray to God to help you retain the foundational zeal for every vision He had placed on your heart.
