Topic: The Keys to Waiting – Faith

2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.
In yesterday’s devotional, we saw that Elisha demonstrated how to wait to be glorified but not to be wasted. He made the progressive journey with Elijah until he was glorified from ELIJAH’S MINISTER to the man with ELIJAH’S MANTLE. The keys to Elisha’s manifestation as the man with Elijah’s mantle can be found in the names of the various places he went to with Elijah before the latter was taken from him – before Elijah’s translation and Elisha’s empowerment. The first key is FOUNDATION. The second key is FAITH.
From Gilgal, Elijah and Elisha moved on to Bethel (2 Kings 2:2-3). Bethel means House of EL or House of God. Represents the faith – the house of God is the place where our faith is built through the Word, prayer and fellowship. Many people, after beginning well in the house of God, seek solution in the wrong places when faced with challenges. as we wait to win, we must wait at the right place – the house of God.
At Gilgal Elijah told Elisha he would be taken away, but at Bethel it was the doubting sons of the prophets who tried to stop him. His faith was tested. Even in the house of God, your faith will be tested.
At Bethel, other factors were introduced – the detractors. But Elisha RECEIVED FAITH from THE HOUSE OF GOD to survive. This you may see or hear can shake you. But you must learn to tell those negative voices to shut up, take your eyes off the discouraging scenes, draw faith from the house of God and survive the journey to winning.
Prayer: Pray that your faith will not fail when tested.
