Month Theme: Manifestation
Topic: The Bearer of the Mantle – Exposed
Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 2:1-13
Main Text:
Romans 8:19
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
We saw in yesterday’s devotional that the mantle was the Hebrew word ʾaddereth which was a large over-garment, and it was probably made of sheepskin. Elisha having Elijah’s mantle was a proof that he was vested with the authority and influence of his master (2 Kings 2:13). Something happened to the new bearer of the MANTLE. First he was energised. Secondly, he was exposed.
Manifestation means a revelation – one is exposed. The veil is removed. Elisha tore up his own garment (the veil) and took Elijah’s mantle (2 Kings 2:12). He lost his old identity and the new power and authority in him was exposed. He was the NEW ELIJAH – he was exposed.
Don’t be ashamed to tear up your old identity – habits, beliefs and attributes. Learn the secret of putting on the new mantle. New wine is not put in an old wine sack. It is put in a new wine sack (Matthew 9:16-17). Your old identify may have helped you to a point, but it may not have the power to take you through the next level. Some old habits and beliefs must also remain at the other side of the jordan. You crossed over when you gave your life to Christ. Your new identity is in Christ. Leave the old identify and walk in newness of life.
Prayer: Pray and ask God for the strength and discipline to drop the old identify and put on the new identity when the need arises.
