Month Theme: Manifestation
Topic: The Bearer of the Mantle – Energised
Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 2:1-13
Main Text:
Romans 8:19
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
The earnest expectation of the creature is the manifestation of the sons of God. The word manifestation in Romans 8:19 is the Greek word apokalypsis which means to lighten, appearing or revelation. Manifestation is when someone is lightened – a brightness comes upon him or her as his or her darkness disappears. One is energised also. Light does not only brighten things but energises (emboldens) them. It means a revelation – one is exposed. The veil is removed. It means appearing – one has emerged. Crossing a barrier on obscurity.
The prophet Elisha was manifested when he received Elijah’s mantle. He was the apokalypsis of the moment. The bearer of the mantle was the manifestation. The mantle was the Hebrew word ʾaddereth which was a large over-garment. It was probably made of sheepskin – a strip of skin or leather binding it to his loins. Elisha having Elijah’s mantle was a proof that he was vested with the authority and influence of his master (2 Kings 2:13).
Something happened to the bearer of the MANTLE. A bearer is a person or thing that carries or holds something. The chariot of fire and horses of fire lightened or energised Elisha (2 Kings 2:11). The fire (light) of someone’s chariot or horse is what lightens and energises you. Lightening a person produces both visibility and energy. Don’t quench other people’s light. You can only be empowered when others are translated. Elisha was energised to go back to the Jordan. Fear left him – he was not afraid of the sons of the prophets of Jezebel. He took up the mantle, went back, stood, smote the waters – energised.
Prayer: Thank God for the mantles He has placed on people throughout the world. Pray also for the preservation of these men and women of God.
