Month Theme: Manifestation
Topic: The Keys to Waiting – Following
Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 2:1-13
Main Text:
2 Kings 2:6
6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.
Jordan means the descender or the watering-place.
Jordan was the chief river of Palestine. It flowed from north to south down a deep valley in the centre of the country. The name descender is significant to the fact that there is along its whole course, a descent to its banks; or it may simply denote the rapidity with which it “descends” to the Dead Sea.
Jordan is the prophetic sign that the power and glory of the Holy Ghost are about to descend on you.
It tells you that if you can CROSS THE RIVER JORDAN like the children of Israel did you would enter the Promised Land. FOLLOWING is the key here. Some people refuse to follow their Elijahs even when they see the river Jordan descending. The sons of the prophet did not help Elisha; they refused to follow Elijah; they looked at Elijah and Elisha from afar (2 Kings 2:6-8).
At Jordan, the river brings the power of the Holy Ghost. The river is descending on you and you must follow your Elijah into the blessing and glory. You have waited for your manifestation. Your journey took you through times of discouragement from the sons of the prophets and other forces. But:
- Your foundation stood firm – Gilgal
- Your faith quenched the fiery darts of the enemy – Bethel
- Your flourishing refreshed you to continue the journey – Jericho
- Your following has propelled you across the line – Jordan
(2 Kings 2:13)
Prayer: Pray that by the power and glory of the Holy Ghost upon you, you will successfully finish everything you have started.
