Month Theme: Manifestation
Topic: The Keys to Waiting – Flourishing
Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 2:1-13
Main Text:
2 Kings 2:4
4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
As stated in earlier devotionals, the keys to Elisha’s manifestation as the man with Elijah’s mantle can be found in the names of the various places he went to with Elijah before the latter was taken from him – before Elijah’s translation and Elisha’s empowerment. The first key is FOUNDATION (Gilgal). The second key is FAITH (Bethel). The third is FLOURISHING (Jericho).
Jericho means the place of fragrance; it is described in the Old Testament as the city of palm trees. It was a fenced city amid a vast grove of palm trees, in the plain of Jordan, over against the place where that river was crossed by the Israelites.
Flourishing is the state of thriving, decoration and embellishment. At Gilgal, it was all about the first love of Elisha for one person, at Bethel it was about him and having faith through the house of God but at Jericho he was fenced about and flourished in the city of palm trees which were symbols of fragrance and flourish (2 Kings 2:2-5). The sons of the prophets were there to test him but HE RECEIVED THE FLOURISH/BLESSING OF THE CITY. The people may be against you but the palm trees are not against you. Receive the blessings of the city that give you fragrance and make you flourish.
Prayer: Pray that you and all that is yours will flourish in what you do, and at where you live.
