Month Theme: Manifestation
Topic: The Bearer of the Mantle – Emerged
Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 2:1-15
Main Text:
Romans 8:19
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
The mantle was the Hebrew word ʾaddereth which was a large over-garment. A bearer is a person or thing that carries or holds something. Elisha became the bearer of Elijah’s mantle. Something happened to the bearer of the MANTLE. He was ENERGISED, EXPOSED, and he EMERGED.
“Energised” and “exposed” were treated in previous devotionals. Emerge means appearing – one has emerged. Crossing boundaries. Elisha crossed from one side of the Jordan to the other. There is a river of blessing, the anointing, grace and glory that is descending – you must cross the line. Elisha returned alone. He earlier crossed with the help of Elijah. This time, he had the task of crossing alone (2 Kings 2:14). There are times people will help us cross the river of blessing, the anointing, grace and glory. There are other times, however, that we would need to cross alone to emerge.
By crossing the Jordan on his own Elisha emerged as the NEW SENSATION. It is time to cross limitations and leap over walls (2 Samuel 22:30). The BELIEVER in the God of Elijah was the BEARER of Elijah’s mantle. Elisha did not call on a new “God”, he called on the LORD God of Elijah (2 Kings 2:14-15).
Prayer: Pray for yourself that whatever you have set your hands to do will rise from obscurity.
