Zechariah 4:14

Civil power refers to the anointing of kings and those in secular positions. The necessity of civil power, regarded as “secular anointing” operating together with ecclesiastical power to build the temple was revealed in God’s plan when He called Bezaleel and Aholiab to help Moses build the Tabernacle with their skills (Exodus 31:1-6). Moses could not have built the Tabernacle with his prophetic anointing – ecclesiastical or spiritual power – alone.
What we consider as civil power is spiritual in nature and effect. It is common for us to encourage the operating of ecclesiastical anointing but label civil power as carnal. It is high time the Body of Christ placed an emphasis on the importance of civil power in building the Kingdom of God. The dual action of Joshua the high priest and Zerubbabel the governor was needed to build both the Temple and the city of Jerusalem. God empowered both anointings to fulfil the assignment. The purposes of God have spiritual and physical dimensions, hence the need for ecclesiastical and civil anointings.
Both Joshua and Zerubbabel stood by the Lord of the whole earth (Zechariah 4:13-14). It is easy to understand that a person with ecclesiastical power who stands by the Lord of the whole earth is anointed. However, it is difficult to appreciate the anointing on a person who does the things we consider to be secular. Civil power stands by the Lord of the whole earth and is anointed as much as ecclesiastical power.
Prayer: Pray for Christians in secular positions, Christian businesses and business people that God will preserve them and bless the work of their hands, especially in these interesting times of COVID-19.
