Topic: WHERE IS YOUR FAITH?
THEME SCRIPTURE:
Luke 8:25 (KJV)
And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.
MESSAGE:
We noted in our previous devotion, that, faith is the means by which we bring what is in the future into the now. It is the means by which we embody what we hope for, as though we already possess it.
What are you faced with presently? Which storm is currently seeking to drown you? Do you feel overwhelmed by the happenings all over the world? Our theme Scripture reveals what God would want us to do in the midst of storms - He would want us to be conscious of our faith, as well as use our faith to calm the storms of life!
Jesus was crossing a lake with His disciples in a ship, and suddenly, a stormy wind came against the ship, until their ship was filled with water (Luke 8:22-23). Saint Mark’s account of this story says, “And he (Jesus) was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?” (Mark 4:38, KJV). Isn’t that beautiful? Jesus was asleep on a pillow in the midst of the storm, even when the ship was filled with water (Mark 4:37). This is the posture God would want His children to adopt whenever we are faced with a raging storm. Rather than complain and wonder whether God cares for us, we are to be still with a quiet confidence in God’s care, in the midst of the storms of life. And also use our faith to calm any storm that might come our way.
The question Jesus asked His disciples after He awoke from sleep and calmed the storm, is the same question He is asking you and me today: “Where is your faith?” In other words, if we say we are a people of faith, then, we are to utilize that faith to deal with whatever storms that confront us. Don’t sit down and cry in despair! Don’t throw your arms into the air in utter hopelessness and dejection, as though God doesn’t care.
God cares for you and me, no doubt about that; but whereas some may storm the gates of heaven for help out of fear and panic, God would rather want us to make a difference with our faith, by using our faith to calm the storms of life. I ask you the same question today: Where is your faith?
