Topic: FAITH VERSUS FACTS
THEME SCRIPTURE:
Romans 4:19 (KJV)
And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb.
MESSAGE:
In our previous devotion, we learnt that faith looks at the unseen Word of God, that’s why it does not consider the things which are seen.
Our theme Scripture is a reference to Abraham, the father of faith. God had told Abraham that He had made him the father of many nations, at the time when Abraham didn’t have a child (Romans 4:17). Abraham looked at the unseen Word of God, and although age had caught up with him and his wife Sarah, as far as child bearing was concerned, he believed in hope of becoming the father of many nations (Romans 4:18).
The Scripture says, “And being not weak in faith, he CONSIDERED NOT his own body now dead, when he was about a hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb.” Recall that in our previous devotion, we said, the phrase, “...while we do not look at the things which are seen” means, “while we DO NOT CONSIDER the things which are seen.” And that’s exactly what Abraham did! Abraham didn’t consider the facts of the weakness of his body, nor the deadness of Sarah’s womb. It was a biological and medical fact that Abraham and Sarah couldn’t produce a child, but Abraham didn’t consider that. He had seen it, but he hadn’t seen it. Are you getting the point?
Galatians 3:7 says those who are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. If the adage “Like father, like son” is true, then, we must come to that realm of our faith walk, where we behave like father Abraham. We’re not denying the facts on the ground. Rather, we know that facts can change, and our faith can change the facts!
