Month Theme: The Anointing
Topic: Anointing Without Struggle
Scripture Reading: Acts 10:30-40
Main Text:
1 John 2:27
27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
You do not have to struggle to experience Jesus Christ’s power by running from one place to another. You have a unique anointing within yourself (1 John 2:27).
Many years ago, I decided to go on radio as a regular speaker. I needed someone to share the airtime with me. Guess what! My mind travelled from my office into the streets in search of someone to help me, yet my wife was seated right in front of me – I already had the person I was looking for.
The above scripture reference reveals two levels of having the anointing in us:
1. Receive
- We receive the anointing by hunger and thirst for the Spirit of God, faith in the Word of God, revelation of the purposes of God, association with Spirit-filled believers and confession by inviting the Holy Ghost into our lives.
2. Retain
- The Spirit or anointing we receive abides or is retained in us – the anointing is embedded in us. The Message Translation of the Bible says that the anointing you have received from Christ is deeply embedded in you and is uncontaminated by a single lie.
The Spirit resides in us through constant meditation on the Word of God, fellowship with the Holy Ghost, holiness and practice of the anointing. The apostle Paul showed the Ephesians how to have the anointing or Spirit reside in them. He said, "And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;"
(Ephesians 5:18-19).
Prayer: Pray for the grace to receive and retain the anointing.
