Month Theme: Reaping in the Jubilee
Topic: Don’t hide from your flesh
Scripture Reading: Isaiah 58:6-7, Genesis 47:1-6
Main Text: Leviticus 25:10,
Luke 4:19
To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
In the acceptable day of the LORD, the Israelites were commanded to refrain from refusing to give assistance to their own families. In the Jubilee season and God’s chosen fast, we must give our families the emotional, physical and financial support they need.
We hide from our family by being ashamed of them. Failing to provide them with food and shelter. Abusing them. Harming or destroying them.
Joseph demonstrated his love for his family by bringing them into Pharaoh’s presence and requesting him to permit them to settle in the land of Goshen. Joseph gave his family:
1. Relationship
Joseph forgave his brethren and called them family. It was a sin during the Jubilee not to forgive people their debts or to refuse to release their properties unconditionally.
2. Recommendation
He recommended them to Pharaoh and gave them the opportunity to request to stay in Egypt and practice their occupation.
3. Repose
Repose is a state of rest, relaxation and tranquillity. He settled – gave repose – to his family in the land of Goshen.
4. Responsibility
Pharaoh directed Joseph to make the active ones among his brethren, rulers of his cattle.
Prayer: Pray for yourself, that you will receive grace to bring rest to your family.
