Topic: THE ESSENCE OF SEXUAL INTERCOURSE
THEME SCRIPTURE:
Ephesians 5:29-32 (NKJV)
[29] For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. [30] For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. [31] “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” [32] This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
MESSAGE:
There is no sacred practice that has been abused and desecrated as much as the act of sexual intercourse. Sexual intercourse is holy, and is the reserve of married couples only. Until we discover the essence of sexual intercourse, our sin, and for that matter, our judgement, will be worse than that of Sodom and Gomorrah.
The verse 30 of our theme Scripture says, we are members of Christ’s Body, of His flesh and of His bones. The Head, who is Christ, and His Body, which is the Church, are one. Then, the verse 31 says, “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” For what reason? For the reason that the Head and the Body are one, so a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two become one flesh. The picture of husband and wife becoming one flesh is a shadow of the oneness between Christ and His Church.
The Greek word translated “joined” also means, “cleave to” or “glued to.” It’s a reference to the act of sexual intercourse. 1 Corinthians 6:16 (NKJV) says, “Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.” What do men who patronize harlots engage them for? For sexual intercourse, of course! So, if a man joined to a harlot becomes one flesh with her, and we know of a certainty that a man joined to a harlot is for sexual intercourse, then, a man leaving his father and mother to be joined to his wife, is a reference to sexual intercourse.
What, then, do we deduce? The reason why sexual intercourse is the reserve of married couples is that, you become one flesh with whoever you have sexual intercourse with. And Scripture specifically mentions that “…the two, shall become one flesh.” The Scripture never said, two or more; THE TWO – husband and wife! What do you think will become of someone who has multiple sexual partners? Pause for a moment and think about that.
Essentially, sexual intercourse is to foreshadow the intimate relationship between Christ and His Church. It is the only available picture of the inseparable oneness between Christ and His Church. The bliss and fulfillment a husband and wife share together during sexual intercourse, is a shadow of the unimaginable bliss and ecstasy that awaits the Church when we shall be joined together with Christ at His coming. This is why sexual intercourse outside of the marital union is a distortion and corruption of what God intended it to be. The reason why the glorified Saints wouldn’t need to marry again after Christ has come, is that, the real marriage has come! What do you need the shadow for, when you have the real?
