Month Theme: Reaping in the Jubilee
Topic: Sanctify the Jubilee
Scripture Reading: Luke 4:16-21
Main Text:
Luke 4:19
To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
God commanded the Israelites to observe the seventh day of the week as the Sabbath Day – it was a holy day (Exodus 20:8-11). The day was consecrated or dedicated to the Lord. The affection of the people was completely dedicated to the Lord. They shifted their devotion from their work to the Lord. The sabbath was a demonstration of the fear of God. The Sabbath Day is holy because it belongs to the LORD. We are not supposed to use it to gratify our desires.
Sabbaths were so important that God gave the Hebrews several them. There was the weekly Sabbath of one day out of seven, another Sabbath of one year in seven years and the fiftieth-year Sabbath (the Jubilee). God commanded the children of Israel to observe the Jubilee, just as they observed the sabbath day (Leviticus 25:8-10). They were required to “hallow” the Jubilee. If the sabbath day is holy, the Jubilee being seven sabbaths of years must be holy.
One day the Lord told me to tell His people to give Him His Sabbath Day and He will give them their rest. The Sabbath is a waiting period – not a wasting period – in which we renew our strength. “A LIBERATED OBSERVANCE OF A SABBATH DAY” will strengthen our relationship with God and sustain our spiritual and physical state of wholeness.
Prayer: Pray and declare that this is your Jubilee. You receive rest from all your labour.
