Month Theme: Reaping in the Jubilee
Topic: Clothe those who are naked
Scripture Reading: Luke 4:16-21
Main Text: Isaiah 58:5-7
Luke 4:19
To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Food and accommodation are necessities of life. Another basic need of life is clothing. Clothing provides covering for nakedness, removes shame, gives warmth and decorates the body. During the periods of oppression and bondage, people are denied good clothing but, in the Jubilee, or God’s chosen fast, God demands that we clothe others.
Human nature is quick to expose and judge naked. The ability to cover nakedness is an act of grace. Grace is the supernatural and unmerited favour and ability of God given to us to accomplish His purposes.
Nakedness talks about guilt, shame and lack. Covering people’s nakedness physically is a blessing but doing so spiritually is a better blessing. Genesis 9:20-23
Noah’s sons had the grace to cover nakedness. Noah displayed some amount of indiscretion by drinking wine and leaving himself naked in his tent. His son Ham did not have the grace to cover his nakedness, but Shem and Japheth did. In this season of the Jubilee, believers should have the spiritual discretion to cover others’ sins and help them to be restored instead of exposing them to the world to be destroyed – THIS IS OUR MANDATE.
Prayer: Pray for yourself that you'll receive grace and that you’ll exercise discretion in covering people’s guilt, shame and lack.
