Month Theme: Let Brotherly Love Continue
Topic: The Constancy of God's Love
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 13:1-9
Main Text:
Hebrews 13:8
8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
The world is ever changing and so are the people in it. People are so unpredictable in our day that it is not advisable to depend on their promises and commitments. Worshippers change into sinners overnight and righteous people metamorphose into idolaters right under the crystal chandeliers of churches. God’s love does not fail under the severest test. The vacillating nature of man does not disturb the orientation of God’s heart. God loves His people even when they are wayward. He may chastise them for their sins but He never leaves them nor forsakes them (Hebrews 13:5).
The writer of the book of Hebrews, after instructing us on how to walk in love, points us to the perfect example of love - Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:1, 8). The key to the constancy of God’s love for us is that He is the same yesterday, today and forever. This must be the case with us. We cannot be the same yesterday, today and forever; only God is. Nevertheless, we must make the effort to walk as He walked. We must follow in God’s steps.
“Philadelphia” cannot continue if we respond to the disappointments people spill our way every time. Brotherly love cannot continue in churches if we respond to the wrongs others commit against us. The resolve not to change is key to our ability to stay in love. The language of love is very revolutionary:
“I will love you no matter what you do to me.”
“It is impossible to hate you.”
“I simply cannot hate you.”
“I can forgive everything and anything.”
Prayer: Pray and ask the Lord to help you forgive and keep walking in love, no matter how difficult it may be.
