Month Theme: Let Brotherly Love Continue
Topic: Marriage is Honourable in All
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 7:1-10; Hebrews 13:1-9
Main Text:
Hebrews 13:4
4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
Marriage is one of the institutions in which the love of God is most vividly demonstrated and tested. The marriage union is an ideal description of the relationship between Christ and the Church. A Christless life is a hopeless life. A bad marriage introduces great pain into people’s lives. It is therefore common to see satan employ every available strategy to deny believers the opportunity to marry. He also works tirelessly to destroy existing marriages.
In the days of the early Church some people taught the superior purity of the state of celibacy. The author of the book of Hebrews, however states very clearly that marriage is honourable and the bed is undefiled (Hebrews 13:4). Marriage is to be held in honour amongst all believers whether they are ministers or ordinary brethren in the Church.
Marriage is an avenue to share one’s life with another person. It is an arena in which the love of God is manifested towards a spouse and children. In spite of the nobility of marriage some people thought that if they left their marriage partners and stayed single they would serve God better. In I Corinthians 7:1-2 Paul admonished the saints not to leave their spouses for the sake of the ministry.
Prayer: Pray concerning your marriage that it will be honourable.
