Month Theme: Manifestation
Topic: 3D Expectation – Demand
Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 2:1-13
Main Text:
Romans 8:19
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
The term earnest expectation means INTENSE ANTICIPATION. Having earnest expectation is a crucial requirement for a life of godliness and success. It is crucial as having blood running through your veins and arteries. It is as important as having energy in your body. Elisha desired the Spirit on Elijah to perform miracles, bless people and heal the land. He followed Elijah for the Spirit. His expectation of his empowerment and Elijah’s translation to Heaven was earnest – intense anticipation (2 Kings 2:2-10).
Expectation is not a wish but an active pursuit of a goal or result. There are three sides of earnest expectation. These three sides are the forces that activate expectation. The first two – Desire and Defiance – were treated in the last two devotionals. The last side is “Demand”. Elisha wanted double of the spirit of Elijah (2 Kings 2:9). He did not despise the spirit but wanted it. Today many people don’t know about the spirit of power, some lack the appetite for it and others despise it. You cannot demand what you despise or have not appetite for, and until you demand what you desire, you cannot have it. Make a demand on the grace upon your pastor, superior, parents, etc. Anything you see and desire; make a demand on it.
The earnest expectation of a person is the fuel or blood that keeps him or her alive (Psalm 42:1-3). The world and humankind is coming out of the current covid-19 pandemic situation but we can do so gloriously only if we have earnest expectation. Our earnest expectation must be:
- Singular
Elisha focused on just Elijah and the mantle. He was focused. - Sacrificial
Elisha sacrificed everything for the mantle. He paid the price for receiving the mantle. - Sacred
Elisha pursued Elijah and the mantle as if he was pursuing God (2 Kings 2:13-14).
May your earnest expectation manifest quickly in the name of Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Pray for the wisdom and courage to demand what is yours.
