Month Theme: The Sons of Oil
Topic: The Physical Realm Isn’t all there Is
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:1-31
Main Text:
Ephesians 4:8
8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
The woman of Samaria at Jacob’s well in Jesus Christ’s days on earth nearly missed her visitation because she did not know the gift of God (John 4:7-10). She did not have a revelation of Jesus Christ as the Son of God while she was having the encounter. This woman had many preconceived ideas that were stumbling blocks in her way to spiritual fulfilment. Jesus Christ took her through a period of elaborate teaching, which finally liberated her to fulfil her destiny.
The woman at the well knew about physical thirst and physical water. She had the ability to draw physical water. She however, made the mistake of thinking that the physical realm was the only realm that was relevant to people’s existence. Jesus Christ taught her that beside physical water, human beings needed spiritual water – living water. He exposed her to the water that springs up into everlasting life.
The woman at the well was a giver of physical water representing civil power but Jesus Christ was the giver of spiritual water representing ecclesiastical power. She was so deluded by her ability to give physical water that she did not realise her need for spiritual power. The world is so deceived by its ability to provide physical needs that it denies its need for spiritual things and people. The woman was a specialist in supplying physical water but Jesus Christ was the specialist in supplying spiritual water. Her humility in asking questions resulted in Jesus Christ giving her answers that exposed her to the spiritual realities of life (John 4:12-15).
Prayer: Pray that through your life, people will appreciate the spiritual realm of life.
