Month Theme: The Sons of Oil
Topic: Ecclesiastical Power is Necessary
Scripture Reading: Zechariah 3:1-10
Main Text:
Zechariah 4:14
14 Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth.
Joshua, was the first high priest chosen for the reconstruction of the Jewish temple after the return of the Jews from Babylonian captivity. God placed emphasis on the building of Zerubbabel’s temple after Solomon’s temple had been destroyed. The high priest’s role was necessary for building the temple and making it functional – he was one of the two anointed ones who stood by the Lord of the whole earth.
Joshua stood before the angel of the LORD, the LORD rebuked satan for his sake, changed his garments and gave him the mandate to minister before Him (Zechariah 3:1-5). His position was not an ordinary one. He was elected to stand by the Lord of the whole earth by ministering to Him and for Him. Ministering to the Lord involves being holy unto the Lord, worshipping the Lord, giving Him thanks and making sacrifices to Him. Ministering for the Lord includes teaching His Word, making forgiveness and atonement for sins available to His people, bringing God’s healing and deliverance to those who come to Him by faith and bringing God’s blessings upon His people.
Neither Jerusalem nor the temple could have been built without the office of the high priest. Ecclesiastical power or spiritual power was needed to restore Jerusalem to its state of glory. Life consists of two things – the spiritual and the physical, the seen and the unseen. Joshua’s role was as indispensable as Zerubbabel’s.
Prayer: Pray for your pastors that they’ll receive grace to fulfil God’s purpose for their lives on earth.
