Month Theme: Faith
Topic: Building by Faith - Incorruptibility
Scripture Reading: Genesis 6:1-15; Hebrews 11:1-40
Main Text:
Hebrews 11:7
7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
Noah’s ARK is a type of the CHURCH and the gopher wood and pitch speak about the incorruptibility and impermeability of the Church (Genesis 6:13-14). The ark was a vessel – a hollow place capable of containing persons or goods regardless of the shape or form.
Faith produces things that serve their purpose and overcome storms. The ark was fit and equipped to survive the flood.
Some scholars think, gopher is cedar, pine or fir. Adam Clarke's Commentary says this of Gopher wood: Probably cypress wood – “it is not liable to rot, nor to be injured by worms. The cypress was anciently used for ship-building. This wood abounded in Assyria, where it is probable Noah built the ark.”
The word gopher means “to house in”. The house of gopher wood is the Church (Matthew 16:17-18). The incorruptible Church of Jesus Christ is made of people who can be described as wood but not of gold or diamonds – human and imperfect. Out of the wood, God made gold and diamonds. We are imperfect and weak, but through the word of God and faith we are incorruptible (1 Peter 1:22-23). Our families, businesses, ministries, churches are incorruptible. The world, demons and the devil cannot corrupt the Church and make it lose its nature of power and glory.
Prayer: Pray and declare that you, your family, your business, your ministry, etc are incorruptible by the blood of Jesus Christ.
