Month Theme: Manifestation
Topic: Becoming a Huois – Prt 2
Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 2:1-22
Main Text:
Hebrews 5:8
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
The main way of becoming a huios is SUFFERING (Hebrews 5:7-9). “Son” in the above scripture reference is the Greek word huios (verse 8) and perfect is teleioō (verse 9) meaning finish, complete, consummate and fulfil. To suffer includes our adversities and people’s attitudes to belittle us.
Elisha’s testimony illustrates how one becomes a son of God – huios. He began as a servant (a spiritual child), followed his master Elijah across the Jordan, returned with the mantle, was manifested as the new Elijah and delivered the creation in Jericho and other places from bondage and death.
How to become a huios is seen in Elisha’s life:
The journey from Gilgal, through Bethel and Jericho to the Jordan symbolised suffering (2 Kings 2:1-6).
• Discovery (Gilgal) – foundation pains.
Not know who you are and what you are born for is suffering.
• Devotion
(Bethel) – church pains.
Devotion will cost you mockery and rejection from even those in the church. The world will persecute and possibly kill you for your devotion.
• Denials (Jericho) – worldly pains.
Everything looks so good, fragrant and flourishing for others but not you.
• Delays (Jordan) – spiritual pains.
Waiting for your personal Pentecost, anointing or descending river.
IT IS ONLY PEOPLE WHO SUFFER WHO BECOME HUIOS.
Prayer: ask the Holy Ghost to help you endure the pain that will make you a Huios.
