Month Theme: The Sons of Oil
Topic: Civil Power is not by Might
Scripture Reading: Zechariah 4:1-14
Main Text:
Zechariah 4:6
6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
Zerubbabel did not operate by might or power but by the Spirit of God. The word “might” in Zechariah 4:6 is the Hebrew word, ḥayil which means resources, army, wealth, virtue, strength, forces, goods, riches or substance. The word “power” is the Hebrew word, kōaḥ which means strength, force, ability, capacity or means. “Might” may refer to the strength of many people whereas “power” may refer to the strength of one person. Zerubbabel did not accomplish his mission by military might or material wealth, but by the power of the Holy Ghost.
It is interesting to note that when believers say, “Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit”, they forget that God gave this word to man with civil power. Zerubbabel’s assignment was spiritual because it was conceived, birthed and executed by the Spirit of God. Jesus Christ asserted that anyone or anything that is born of the Spirit and operates by the Spirit is “Spirit” – spiritual (John 3:5-8).
Believers who operate in the traditional so-called spiritual offices should not alienate others from the Holy Ghost. The latter are also called and anointed. They must be encouraged to develop and release their potential.
Prayer: Pray for Christians in secular positions, Christian businesses and business people that they’ll receive a revelation of their mandate from God.
