Month Theme: The Jubilee
Topic: You will be Honoured
Scripture Reading: Ruth 1-4; Leviticus 25:8-13
Main Text:
Leviticus 25:11
11 A jubilee shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed.
God demonstrated His mercy towards Naomi by orchestrating a plan in which her daughter-in-law Ruth married Boaz, and gave birth to Obed who became David’s grandfather (Ruth 4:13-22). The writer of the book of Ruth says the women who rejoiced with Naomi seemed to attribute the birth of Obed to her more than to Ruth.
They said to Naomi, “blessed be the LORD, which hath not left thee this day without a kinsman”. They added plainly that, “there is a son born to Naomi”. Early on, she had reaped from fields she did not sow in. In the case of child bearing also she is called the mother of a son she did not personally bear.
The women pointed out to her that her daughter-in-law Ruth, who loved her was better than seven sons. These wise women sought to make Naomi appreciate her Jubilee. Naomi finally responded to God’s miracle and the admonitions of the women by taking the child and nursing him.
Prayer: Pray that you will not be denied honour.
