Leviticus 25:11
11 A jubilee shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed.
Although God had great plans for Naomi, she was still in doubt when she arrived in Israel. Naomi used her bitter experiences in the land of Moab to literally write a script of God’s dealings with her. She renamed herself, “Mara”, to reflect the hardship she had gone through as a widow who had lost her husband and sons.
Naomi was practically inconsolable (Ruth 1:6-7, 19-22). The news that the LORD had visited Israel by giving them bread did not change her confessions – she was unrepentantly negative. The name, “Naomi”, means pleasant, agreeable, delight, suitable, grace, beauty and splendour whereas “Mara”, means bitter and discontented.
It was Naomi’s Jubilee and nothing could stop her from being blessed. Her daughter-in-law Ruth went into the fields of Boaz, a member of her late husband Elimelech’s family, to reap grain that had been left behind by the reapers – Naomi, through Ruth reaped where she had not sown. The LORD graciously blessed them with food to keep them alive – it was their Jubilee. They returned to the land to harvest what they had not sown (Ruth 2:1-3).
Prayer: Pray that by the mercy of God, you'll harvest what these difficult times prevented you from sowing.
