Month Theme: The Jubilee
Topic: Obtaining God’s Mercy
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 4:1-16; Leviticus 25:8-13
Main Text:
Leviticus 25:11
11 A jubilee shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed.
The Jubilee is a season for obtaining God’s mercies. We receive things we may not deserve. In Israel, prior to the Jubilee some people owed money they could not pay and either gave their properties away or sold themselves into slavery. Their state of bondage or indebtedness was therefore partly their fault.
Nevertheless, during the Jubilee God showed them mercy by returning their possessions to them. The Gospel of Jesus Christ opens the door for sinners and slaves of satan to obtain mercy. We have a great High Priest who can identify with our weaknesses and show us mercy (Hebrews 4:14-16).
Life’s negative experiences can cause us to become used to being denied God’s blessings. These experiences push us to believe that God is indifferent to our sufferings. We also think that God uses harsh circumstances to teach us lessons. It is imperative for us to discount our past experiences and seek fresh encounters with God during the Jubilee. A great welcome awaits us on the other side. The Word of God is our best teacher, not our life experiences. If the Word of God cannot teach and empower us to live right, human suffering may not succeed either.
Prayer: Pray that the negative experiences you’ve had in life will not prevent you from enjoying your jubilee.
