Month Theme: Restoration
Topic: The Restoration of Joy
Scripture Reading: Psalm 51:1-19
Main Text:
Psalm 51:12
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
There are many kinds of joy among believers – one of them is the joy of salvation. David lost the joy salvation when he sinned by committing adultery with Bathsheba. He pleaded with God to restore to him the joy of salvation.
The reasons for the joy of salvation are threefold:
Forgiveness
The forgiveness of sins (Psalm 51:1-2). The burden of sin prevents people from having the joy of salvation. When one’s sins are forgiven, the burden of sin is lifted.
Favour
Divine acceptance. You don’t have to do too much to gain God’s approval (Psalm 51:16-17).
Fellowship
Admission into God’s presence (Psalm 51:11). In the presence of the Lord is fullness of joy (Psalm 16:11).
Believers of today don’t care about the joy of salvation partly for two reasons:
Seared conscience as believers are not convicted of sin.
Rejoicing for the less important things like healing, deliverance, miracles and prosperity (Luke 10:18-20). May the joy of salvation be restored to the hearts of believers.
Prayer: Ask the Holy Ghost to guide you to stay away from anything that would cause you to lose the joy of your salvation.
