Month Theme: Restoration
Topic: Double Restoration
Scripture Reading: Exodus 22:1-10
Main Text:
Exodus 22:4
4 If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep; he shall restore double.
If the thief is caught, he must restore double. Consider anything or anybody you’ve ever lost as stolen. It must be restored now – and double. It is wrong to receive the same quantity of what you lost. You must receive it with interest. The penalty for the theft of a sheep which was slain or sold, was fourfold; for an ox fivefold, because of its greater utility in labour; but, should the stolen animal have been recovered alive, a double compensation was all that was required.
We should have the capacity to catch a thief before we experience restoration.
- Observation – To observe is to notice or perceive something and register it as being significant. Observation is not a casual glance at something – at least not in a science experiment. Pay attention and don’t take things for granted. The harlot who owned the live baby in King Solomon’s judgement case was observant. You must observe changes in what you have (1 Kings 3:19-21).
- Overcoming – After identifying the thief, we must overpower the him or her. In a battle for goods, the stronger party keeps the goods (Luke 11:21-22).
God has declared that He would render double to you (Zechariah 9:12). “Great as has been thy adversity, thy prosperity shall be doubly greater.”
Prayer: Pray for a double restoration where you have sorrowed, been cheated and your efforts were not compensated for.
