Month Theme: The Anointing
Topic: The Standard for the Anointing
Scripture Reading: Psalm 23; Acts 10:30-40
Main Text:
Acts 10:38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
There are instances in the Bible and in contemporary times, in which very spiritual folks either lose the anointing or fail to walk in it constantly. The Galatians started their Christian life in the Spirit but ended up in the flesh (Galatians 3:3). We should not partake in the inconsistent spiritual life of the Galatians who began in Spirit but drifted into the flesh.
Jesus Christ is the perfect example of the anointing. In His earthly experience, He was always anointed.
1. Volume of supply
- God supplies believers with measures of the anointing for various purposes (Philippians 1:19). Jesus Christ, however, had the Holy Ghost without measure – the volume of the supply of the Spirit was measureless (John 3:34). He did not have the Holy Ghost to a limited degree or portion. Under all circumstances, Jesus Christ’s anointing did not diminish – He was constantly anointed.
2. Victory over the flesh - Jesus Christ’s accusers could not identify sin in His life when He was on earth. He was always without sin (John 8:46). Being holy or having power over the flesh is through the enablement of the Holy Ghost (Romans 8:13-14). Without the power of the Holy Ghost, we can’t defeat sin. If Jesus Christ was sinless, it was because of the power of the Holy Ghost.
The writer of the book of Hebrews said to his audience, "1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God."
(Hebrews 12:1-2). We must keep our focus on Jesus Christ in these last days of disappointments concerning those who have the anointing.
Prayer: Pray for the grace to focus on Christ, the perfect example of the anointing.
