Month Theme: Let Brotherly Love Continue
Topic: Imprisoned Potential
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 13:1-9
Main Text:
Hebrews 13:5
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
In Hebrews 13:3 the author admonished the believers to remember the believers who were in bonds. These believers were persecuted and some were thrown into prison for their faith. There is great blessing in loving those who are in bonds. The greatest propitiation, prosperity and profitability could come from the prison but not the lecture halls of universities and holy sanctuaries of churches.
Loving those who are in prison releases great potential to us: 1. Propitiation.
The person who appeased God’s wrath by giving His life – Jesus Christ – was taken from prison (Isaiah 53:8). There are many people is prison who are merely suffering for the sins of others. History is replete with people who came out of physical, spiritual and psychological prison and brought salvation and freedom to their people.
2. Profitability.
Paul begot Onesimus who was profitable to Philemon spiritually, while he was in Rome serving a prison term (Philemon 1:9-11). Prisoners sometimes produce great people and conceive and bear great fruit while they are in prison. It is important for us to pay attention to them.
3. Prosperity.
Joseph who had the keys to the prosperity of Egypt was taken from prison (Genesis 41:14, 38-41). We must love and pray for the release of prisoners. They may bring propitiation, prosperity and profit. The best man for the land may be in the prison like Joseph was – FIND HIM.
Prayer: Pray that God will raise for you somebody who can and will love you enough to help you.
