Month Theme: Let Brotherly Love Continue
Topic: Release Prisoners
Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 2:1-11; Hebrews 13:1-9
Main Text:
Hebrews 13:5
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
In Hebrews 13:3 the author admonished the believers to remember the believers who were in bonds. These believers were persecuted and some were thrown into prison for their faith. The apostle urged the believers to let brotherly love continue (13:1-3). Brotherly love must be extended to those who are in prison. Those who are in prison are those who are in pain, shame and bondage.
People who are in pain, shame or bondage form a large part of the populace and congregation. They are not necessarily in a physical prison. Some have been imprisoned by their past, while others are under the bondage of false accusations against them. We have a duty to give them a chance to live free in Christ. The woman caught in adultery received freedom from her accusers when she encountered Jesus Christ (John 8:1-11).
There is great blessing in loving those who are in bonds. The greatest propitiation, prosperity and profitability could come from the prison but not the lecture halls of universities and holy sanctuaries of churches. Great potential have been locked up in the prisons of life. Believers must reach out to these people, in love, and offer them the opportunity to be free.
Prayer: Pray for the grace to release anybody you may have held prisoner in your heart because of an offense, and also for the capacity to free people from the prison of shame and pain.
