Month Theme: The Sons of Oil
Topic: Levels of Sonship – Teleios
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 5:1-14
Main Text:
Hebrews 5:14
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
The final Greek word is teleios (tel’-i-os).
The word teleios means complete, wanting nothing.
Brought to its end, finished, wanting nothing necessary to completeness, that which is perfect, consummate human integrity and virtue, full grown, adult, of full age, mature. So when we say teleios, it is a state where a person has finished growing. A state where the person has reached his or her highest possible point of growth. For instance, there is a point of physical growth, like the height of a person, that one cannot exceed.
We sometimes say we are human, and cannot achieve perfection, but there are times God expects us to rise to perfection. “Perfect” in Matthew 5:48 is the Greek word teleios. Believers will have to discard the mentality that they cannot live a life close to perfection, and rather believe God to attain. At different levels of growth, there are different feeding requirements. Milk is for babies, but strong meat is reserved for teleios (Hebrews 5:12-14). We must grow to the point where we don’t need to be taught, rather there is need that we teach others.
It is important for the children of God to mature into at least the huios. There are so many false doctrines which are sweeping babies off their feet (Ephesians 4:14-15). You cannot remain a baby and make meaningful impact. Those who make meaningful impact mature beyond childhood.
Prayer: Pray that you will be sensitive to the guidance of the Holy Ghost in every step you take towards maturity.
