Month Theme: Supernaturality
Topic: The “Why” of Legacy
Scripture Reading: 1 Chronicles 29:1-10
Main Text:
1 Chronicles 29:1
1 Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation, Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man, but for the LORD God.
We continued our study on Intentional Legacy, and stated that when leaving a legacy, some important questions to ask are “To whom is a legacy created and given?” “Who is the right candidate for a legacy?” King David left legacies for his son, Solomon (1 Chronicles 29:1-5). He was the right candidate because Solomon was: Connected, Chosen and a Child.
Another important question to ask with regard to legacy is “why must legacies be created?” We can glean a few reasons from 1 Chronicles 29. The next generation needs a legacy because:
• Great is the work (1 Chronicles 29:1) — The work is great and someone must start it for another to continue. David put together everything that was needed for the building of the temple. He also built strategic relationships Solomon could benefit from (1 Kings 5:1-6).
The second reason is:
• God — The palace is for God and must be of the highest standard. King David left the best of materials to build the best temple.
• The third is Grace — The palace is not for man and can only be done by the grace of God. It is necessary to leave a legacy because the grace and favour one enjoys may not be available to the next generation. Build a legacy with the favour you have.
Prayer:
Pray for the wisdom to use the grace and favour available to you to build a legacy for the next generation.
