Month Theme: Supernaturality
Topic: The Call and the Ministry
Scripture Reading: Acts 9:1-10
Main Text:
Acts 9:6
6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
After people are born again, they go on to be baptised in water and receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. These experiences are supernatural – they come from the Holy Ghost and are controlled by Him. Another supernatural experience of believers is when God calls us into the ministry. Some of the means by which He calls us are spectacular but others are not. Nevertheless, all the callings of God are supernatural. God works through the Holy Ghost and influences the human will to yield to His will.
Although God often calls people to the ministry in ways which are not spectacular, the apostle Paul’s call when he was on the road to Damascus was explosive. A light shined from Heaven, Jesus Christ appeared to Him and gave him orders (Acts 9:3-7). The calling was not a matter of speculation or guess work. It was a vivid encounter with the Lord, and Paul could not shake it off his memory.
The calling of God on the lives of believers is always supernatural, sometimes in spectacular ways though often through simple spiritual conviction.
The spectacularity of one’s calling does not automatically translate into spiritual results and fruitfulness. Nevertheless, spectacular manifestations of calling are common in the Bible. In real life today, they embolden and inspire believers to exercise faith in their callings.
Prayer:
Pray for a deeper insight into the call of God over your life. Pray same for Christian leaders.
